What I Think of When I Think About Art

There are so many things that compete for my time and attention. There is a lot of noise in the world. Thankfully, there is one refuge I can turn to again and again. One place that quiets my mind, calms my heart and soothes my soul. And that place is my art.

Art is the means we have of undoing the damage of haste. It’s what everything else isn’t.
― Theodore Roethke, On Poetry and Craft: Selected Prose

Art is perhaps man’s greatest contribution. An effort to celebrate beauty, love, meaning, purpose, the ethereal and more.

Art need not be pretentious. Its greatest joy is simply in the creation, which we discover as children. Before our egos and adult insecurities take all the fun out of creating.

Art is joy and hope. At least it is for me. Whatever the circumstances, wherever I am, the creative spirit is always with me. Like a silent friend.

I suspect art is something different for everyone. In the end, it’s a tremendous gift. Both for us, and for those who choose to view and experience our creative work.
