Sometimes in life we are blessed with serendipitous opportunities. Such was the case last February. I was at the beach attending a fundraiser for the Special Olympics organization. The event is called a "polar plunge."
Participants get sponsors and in return dress up in silly outfits and "plunge" into the chilly ocean. Proceeds help support Special Olympics' athletes and their families.
At the beach I met a young man named Zhill Olonan who was filming the event. He had some impressive, hand held equipment that enabled him to pan his camera and capture amazing shots. He showed me a bit of the footage and it was beautiful. Quite artfully done.
The wheels started turning and I told Zhill that I was an artist and writer. I said that I wanted to update the introductory video on my website. "Do you do that kind of thing?" I asked him. He ended up giving me his email and soon a collaboration began.
Zhill is much younger than me and he has a strong command of technology and a creative eye. I described what I envisioned my video to be and I sent him a creative outline. In short order, Zhill emailed back a more fleshed out vision. He included complete scene descriptions and options for various shots. He also found the perfect music to pair with the video.
Last week Zhill came to my home and we spent a few hours shooting the video. My goal was to create a short introductory video for my website. Something to artfully capture a bit of my world and creative philosophy. Needless to say, Zhill nailed it. Literally the next day he sent the final, edited video to me.
I share the video with you here, although it also appears on my "About" page. I hope you enjoy this artfully made clip. And if you're looking for someone on the central coast of California to film and produce a video for you, I highly recommend Zhill Olonan. Visit his Facebook page here.
Videos are a great way to spruce up your website. The key is to keep them brief, because attention spans are short and people are busy.
An artfully crafted video can help folks better understand who you are and what your art, writing or creative endeavors are all about. Further, a video allows people to get to know you better. And when people have a sense of who you are, they might be more inclined to support what you are doing.
You never know when you might meet another creative soul to collaborate with. Always stay on the lookout for such opportunities. You never know where they might lead!
