It all started with our cat, Einstein. He's 17 years old, winding down with thyroid cancer and indifferent to the troubles of the world. Despite his medical deterioration, he's free of pain and focused on what he does best. Nothing.
I decided to emulate Einstein by taking Monday off and enjoying a three day weekend. Like most three day weekends, it began with high hopes. I planned to paint, write and get some exercise. But, I ended up behaving a little too much like my cat. I lounged around, ate, read and watched a bit of television. In short, I wasn't very productive. I guess some weekends you just need to relax and recharge.
Around 8pm on Monday night it occurred to me that I ought to put something inspiring together for my website journal. I sat down with my MacBook Pro and explored pictures, websites and photos. Try as I might to tease out a suitable subject, the muse was uncooperative. So, for motivation, I made myself a cup of coffee and enjoyed a cookie. Coffee and cookies are surefire ways to spark some creativity.
At some point I pulled out one of my journals and found this quote by Jane Austen: "Ah! There is nothing like staying at home, for real comfort." How true, I thought. To be home with my pets and studio and books. It's easy to overlook such simple joys.
Armed with the inspiration of Einstein's leisurely approach to living, as well as Jane Austen's wisdom, I decided to produce a short cartoon video. Just a simple cartoon video to reflect the joys of home life and companionship of our pets.
There will be no academy award for this video, but it does include some beautiful music from the husband/wife band Over the Rhine. As well as a surprise, guest appearance at the end of the video by two of my best supporters.
Enjoy the video. Also, share a comment below and tell me what simple joys you enjoy in your home.
